MSGM SS 2016 MAN FASHION SHOW
JUL 23, 2015
The art: YARN BOMBING (urban knitting art) - graffiti or street art that employs colourful knitting to cover trees or architectural details in the city.
The artist: ANTON ALVAREZ, a Swedish architect of Chilean origins who has turned Yarn Bombing into an art form, covering trees and everyday objects with strips of leather and other materials.
The graffiti is done in knitting, croqueted cotton and linen made by hand for multicolour lines and sporty ribbed techniques in regimental stripes.
As in the works of Alverez, it starts with cotton and reaches plastic: eco-leather and eco-suede, only to return to linen, hemp and rough cotton. Ropes and full-grain leather become new belts to tie around the body.
Tartan and pinstripe are almost indecipherable, in shades of sand, tobacco and light blue.
The prints, by now, are purely graphic: lines of red, blue, white, azure, orange. The regimental stripes on ties are serially repeated on trousers and shorts. But the MSGM man does not lose his irreverent attitude and even lace is printed. There are maps of New York, London and Milan seen from above, the new graphical representations.
Sporting contaminations: comfortable silhouettes, judo trousers and jackets plus flared jogging trousers. Runner details: striped leggings. Biking details: cyclist stripes.
Dominant colours start from the very trees covered with knitting, burnt brown and khaki, only to cross over into yellow ochre, mustard, blue, red earth and powder blue.BACK
